Different Types of Auto Wreckers

No matter how cautious we drive and how perfect our vehicle is, breakdowns and accidents can occur anytime. When it comes to professional towing services, and roadside assistance companies, they must be prepared with all the right equipment, operators, and tow trucks.

For towing companies, every day is a new challenge as vehicles that require their services are of different type, weight and are often stuck in different locations.

In tough weather conditions, difficult terrains, and winding roads the work of tow companies often become tougher. The top tow service providers, however, are prepared for the worst. They have different wreckers for different conditions and requirement. Below is a brief overview of some of the most common wreckers being used today.

Types of Wreckers For Different Conditions

When it comes to towing vehicles, one size doesn’t fit all. The main aim of any towing service provider should be to prevent more damage to the vehicle, which is already stranded. For this, they need specific vehicles. Below is a list of them…

1- Sling Type

Sling type towing vehicles were very common in the past. Some small towing companies still use them but they come with certain disadvantages. The hook and chain attached to the lower portion of the car can cause more damage to the vehicle. This method is still in use but more practical when the stranded vehicle is already severely damaged.

2- Boom

Boom vehicles are an ideal choice when it comes to reaching out and pulling vehicles stuck at difficult to reach areas. These vehicles are often used in tougher terrains like mountains and ice-covered areas. Boom vehicles are not that gentle on the vehicle but they do the job they are built for perfectly.

3- Hydraulic Flat Bed

Most modern towing companies use hydraulically-operated flatbed towing vehicles as the primary workhorse in their fleet. It is perfect for easy to moderate terrains and known for its gentleness on the stranded vehicle.   A great option for towing vintage and sports cars The bed of this towing vehicle can be tilted hydraulically to create a ramp for the stranded vehicle.

Hydraulic Flat Bed is ideal for vehicles that are not severely damaged and can be driven or pulled on the ramp easily. The maintenance of hydraulic system fitted in these tow vehicles is expensive. This is why getting the services of these vehicles often costs more than any other tow trucks.

4- Wheel Lift

It is one of the modern towing vehicles and probably the most widely used in cities. The towing mechanism with wheel lift vehicle is extremely simple. The clamps of the truck get attached to the drive wheels (whether front or back) and then raised up slightly to allow the free movement.  Wheel lift is often used by the authorities as they are smaller in size and can lift up and pull most vehicles.

We’re sure there are more types of towing vehicles on the road. If you have seen any, let us know in the comments section below.
